In 1990, Joseph Harris, who had a history of psychiatric issues, was fired from his job at the post office. This event would brew in him for 18 months. He would begin to stockpile many different types of weapons - from swords to firearms to explosives. Then, on this day in 1991, Joseph decided to execute his plan. He had gone to the residence of his former supervisor, Carol Ott. He found her and attacked her with a samurai sword where she passed away, all while dressed as a ninja. Afterward, he crept towards her live-in boyfriend, Cornelius Kasten, and shot him as he watched TV. Around 2:00 AM, he made his way to the post office in Ridgewood, New Jersey, where he would execute mail handlers, Joseph VanderPaauw and Donald McNaught. Marcello Collado was a truck driver who realized what was going on and was thankfully able to escape with his life. After Marcello called the police, a standoff occurred. Joseph had barricaded himself and brought several explosive devices with him. It wasn’t until approximately 6:00 AM that he would eventually get arrested.
