INFO:
That one time when the Trump admin said Governor Newsom was lying about his concerns for firing live rounds over an active highway - and then the Governor was immediately proven right. Over the weekend, Governor Newsom was accused of playing politics by choosing to close down 17 miles of a California highway over which the government intended to fire live munitions as part of the Marines 250th birthday. Newsom said the decision to fire live munitions as part of the celebration where Vice President JD Vance was a special guest was “a profoundly absurd show of force that could put Californians directly in harm’s way.” Then, As reported by The Hill, in a newly released report from CHP, obtained by the Los Angeles Times, officials say at 1:46 p.m. on Saturday a 155 mm artillery round fired from Red Beach “failed to clear the roadway and detonated midflight.” California Highway Patrol (CHP) has called the event “unusual and concerning.” Shrapnel from that round struck a vehicle on the closed portion of the highway, a vehicle which was thankfully empty. Now Governor Newsom will be waiting for the apology that never comes.
